A checkpoint’s guard post was blown out of its foundations. Decorated in the colors of the Syrian flag, it lay helpless by a road. Its destruction represents the fall of the Assad regime. Its forces used the system of checkpoints, according to a report from the Syrian Network for Human Rights, to control, besiege, cut communication and suppress protests during the civil war.
