from the foot of a falling building

For over a thousand years, the narrow, winding streets and colorfully tiled courtyards of Fez have hosted mercantile activity, religious scholarship and exquisite craftsmanship. The occasional foreign visitors come, too, drawn to the city’s culture and louche possibilities. A remarkable amount of renovation keeps the city vibrant. Found near a building site, the fragments in this rubble are reminders that Fez is built on a foundation of stone and brick, but it’s the colorful tiles that cool its spaces and dazzle the imagination.
