from a home destroyed by terrorists
This piece of rubble was once part of the mud wall of a hut inhabited by a Yazidi family from Sinjar. On August 3, 2014, the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) invaded Sinjar district. They killed thousands of Yazidi residents because of their religious beliefs. Yazidism is a monotheistic religion that worships the Creator and venerates natural phenomena such as the sun and the moon. Some of the Yazidi were displaced, others were captured and sold in slave markets. And yet this deep-rooted and ancient faith remains resilient, even in the face of the injustice they have suffered at the hands of terrorists.
