This piece of rubble is from my former apartment, which was recently torn down to make way for a luxury high-rise building. The expansion of the middle class in Mumbai has made construction constant as massive infrastructure projects begin almost every day. The way that we as a species value “development” at the expense of the Earth shows that humanity considers itself somehow separate from nature.
